FINALLY I get to toot the proverbial horn, to clap together a pair of hollowed-out coconut halves, to chortle gleefully about why I’ve been so quiet about work for so long. Since late September I’ve been preoccupied with the design, illustration and animation of my first iPad app, Monty Python and the Holy Grail’s Holy Book of Days. Working with Melcher Media in NYC and timed with the re-release of that classic comedy movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Blu-ray, we crafted 28 pages for the Holy Book as well as galleries for images and outtakes, a Scene by Scene section, etc. For the Holy Book of Days each page has unique faux medieval borders, spot illustrations and animations and a flexible layout. Work included the design of asset icons and the creation of a multitude of gif animations in Adobe Photoshop. Of course, giant credit has to go to the great Terry Gilliam, whose original illustrations were made available to me to animate and to integrate into the design. The project was a case of graphic design and collage illustration merging into one wacky whole.

Thanks must be given to my lovely client at Melcher Media, who was a delight to work with; to the folks at ScrollMotion who did all the back-end coding (using the same engine that powers the Harry Potter app); and to the talented, creative Stephanie Appleby who brought indespensable energy and ideas as Junior Designer.
